Bully Off - Stamping Out Bullying

ANTI-BULLYING POLICY

Ally schools are officially encouraged by the government to have an anti-bullying policy that they enforce in the school. The policy should detail all the information regarding how the school tackles the issue of bullying, what they consider to be bullying and the punishments they have outlined to impose if a student does not adhere to the ‘no bullying’ conduct within the school.

Pupils and parents are able to request a copy of this as it is information they are entitled to have access to.

The main steps an anti bullying policy should include are

Awareness (make students aware of bullying, the effects the punishments enforced and available support for victims)

Implementing (carrying out of Punishment issued by the school once a case of bullying has been confirmed)

Monitoring (To keep an eye on the pupils in question to make sure there are no repercussions)

Evaluation (Checking whether the problem has been solved or further action needs to be taken, should involve parental contributions)

The schools policy should be reviewed every scholastic year, revising parts that perhaps don’t work efficiently and enforcing new ideas. Parental involvement is a key element in making an anti-bullying policy work.
